COOKIE FAQs
Cookie Detour!

Q: How can I purchase Girl Scout Cookies?
A: You may purchase cookies outside of many of your local grocery stores during March, and also outside banks on weekends, pharmacies, mass merchandisers like Wal-Mart, Sunday Farmers Markets and even two Cookie Drive-Thru's during cookie sale season. Girl Scout cookies may also be purchased (no checks please) from the Council office "Cookie Cupboard" on specific dates and times during the month of March. You may also call the Council at (562) 421-8456 ext. 200 and ask if a troop in your area will call on you personally.

Q: Girl Scouts used to come to my home all the time! Why don't the Girl Scouts go door to door any more?
A: For safety reasons. The girls are instructed not to go to homes where they don't know the residents. If they do, they will always have an adult with them, never give out their last name or phone number and never enter a home.

Q: Are Girl Scout cookies available now?
A: Cookies are available for pre-sale from mid-January to early February. Cookies are typically available for purchase throughout the month of March.

Q: Which cookie training do I need to take?
A: Individuals that have taken at least two product sales trainings, either Fall (Nut and Magazine) sale or Spring (Cookie) sale, may take the 30 minute Update training. The Full or First Timers Sessions are for individuals that have never taken a product sales training or have only taken one.

Q: How much is a box of cookies?
A: Cookies are $4.00 per box.

Q: Why do the Girl Scouts only sell cookies once a year?
A: Because it wouldn't be "special" if they were available every day, all year long. Stock up in March and freeze them so you can enjoy them year round!

Q: Why are there different cookies in different areas?
A: There are currently two bakers that supply cookies to Girl Scout councils. We use Little Brownie Baker which is owned by Keebler. The other baker is called ABC Baker.

Q: How many boxes of cookies did Long Beach sell in 2007?
A: The girls sold over 314,136 boxes!

Q: What do the girls/troops get for selling?
A: Besides a wonderful opportunity to learn valuable life lessons, math skills, business management, marketing and salesmanship, they can also earn funds for troop programs and projects, uniforms and supplies, troop operating expenses, Service Projects, donations to local charities, educational classes/seminars and fun trips. The girls can earn exciting incentives for reaching a specific sales goal.
