Operation Appreciation
The Girl Scout Council of Greater Long Beach introduced the "Operation: Appreciation" program during the 2006 Spring Cookie Sale. This program allows for the girls to take monetary donation for boxes of cookies to pass on to the California Army National Guard in Long Beach. The top donating troops will be invited to represent the council and deliver the donated cookies to the Army National Guard in the spring. Donations slips and an informational flyer are available on our website. This is a great opportunity for customers to support the men and women in the armed services. Additionally, donations designated to Operation Appreciation are tax-deductible.
Summer Opportunities Guide 2008
Ready to plan ahead? Our Summer Opportunity Guide is finished and available via our website. Included in this guide are our summer camp programs, introduction of our new LEAD program for older girls, and specialty camps. Summer Camp registration opened on Friday February 1st. However, there are still plenty of camps still available. |

Annual Meeting
Please join us as we celebrate 46 years of the Girl Scout Council of Greater Long Beach building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. This year the meeting will have a little different look and feel then in past years. The event will include displays of our council’s historical memorabilia, a presentation from The Ambassador group, the election of our delegates to the National Convention and a presentation and Q and A session with Laura Watkins (our realignment consultant from GSUSA.) All registered adults and girls over the age of 14 are welcome to attend this event as we share our memories and celebrate the legacy of our council. For more information please contact Mary.
Adult Recognition
The Girl Scout Council of Greater Long Beach adult volunteers are recognized annually for their tremendous efforts, accomplishments, and diligent work at our Adult Recognition Event. It is that time of year to nominate some of our most outstanding adult volunteers with one of our recognition awards. The event will be held on May 15th. Nomination forms may be found here.
Leader Conference
All troop leaders are invited to attend our second annual Leaders Conference. This event will be held on Sunday April 13th from 1pm-5pm at El Ranchito.
Spend the afternoon sharing tips and meeting new friends while learning valuable new skills and ideas. Workshops will include: Troop Finances, Letterboxing, crafts and singing to name a few. This event is offered at no cost but registration is required. Additional information can be found here.
Looking for a Few Program Sites
We are looking for large indoor locations to hold our events, if you know of places to hold sleepovers, dinner-dances and other Girl Scout events (especially those that offer reduced rates for non-profits) please email the venue contacts to ideas@gscglb.org. In the subject line, write 'Girl Scout Venues.'
Sunset in Naples Annual Fundraiser
Our annual fundraising event will be held on Saturday June 7th at our very own Marine Landing facility. Guests will enjoy a ride on a gondola, a delicious Italian meal, fine wine and an opportunity to purchase items from our live and silent auction. Proceeds from this event are used for program development, training materials for leaders, activity equipment and supplies for girls, financial assistance and maintenance of our properties. This year we will also be honoring three women of courage, confidence, and character: Diane DuBois, Mayor - city of Lakewood, Gerrie Schipske, Councilwomen 5th District - City of Long Beach, and Rosemary Voss, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. We are currently seeking items for our silent auction, event sponsors, and guests. This is a really unique and fun event and hope you will extend this information to your troop parents, families, and friends. Additional information is available on our website here or by contacting Myrna.
