Girl Scouts Robotics Team - Atlanta Bound!

As you all know two of our girls, Taylor Halsey and Jessie Klemme are participating in the first LA County Girl Scout Robotics Team. Well, here is the latest news: following their recent competition in San Diego the team went on to FIRST Robotics regional competition in Las Vegas, NV. Our ladies did another fantastic job, with the great direction from our Jet Propulsion Lab women mentors, and made it to the final round of playoffs! The ladies won the first round and tied the second, and in the tie breaker round lost to the other team in the last few seconds of the round. BUT..... the ladies won the Inspiration Award, and therefore have an invitation to the National Competition in Atlanta!

For those of you not familiar with the FIRST competition, it is basically unheard of for a first year team to do so well, much less get an invitation to Nationals. Our team competed in 4 regional playoffs - chasing the prize of an invitation to Nationals for the winning team. Now, the team is off to compete in Atlanta, Georgia on April 17-19. Congratulations to Taylor and Jessie and their sister team mates for all of their time, hard work, positive attitude, and determination!

What are Rope Runners?

The Rope Runner is a wooden figure which rolls down a rope on a single wheel, using weights to balance. It is based on a traditional toy concept. The Rope Runner is simple in design and easy to assemble. But, seeing it in action is really quite amazing! Girls and their special guy are invited to our Rope Runner Derby on Saturday April 26th. We will supply each team with a kit at the time of signing up which they can then create their very own rope runner. Additional information can be found here.
