Girl Scout Council of Greater Long Beach

April 22nd is Leader Appreciation Day. This is the day to thank your daughter’s leader for all his/her hard work. Here are a few ideas:

* Say “Thank You!”
* Nominate him/her for an Outstanding Leader award
* Plan a surprise party
* Create a collage of the troop
* Take him/her out to lunch
* Send a thank you note with a list of all the things you've seen him/her do for the troop
* Offer to help him/her with a troop activity by sharing a special talent or skill
* Offer to chaperone
* Have the troop plant a tree or a garden in his/her honor
* Give him/her flowers, a homemade item, or something from the Girl Scout shop

And remember, you can do these things year round to show your gratitude! Your Girl Scout leaders are some of the hardest working people. They are an essential part of our Girl Scout movement. Please be sure your leader knows how much you appreciate his/her time and talent.

The family centered book for the program is completely bilingual, written in both English and Spanish. This program can be completed by individual girls and their family, or as a troop activity. It consists of a specific book and activities for each Girl Scout level. Once the girl completes the book for her level, she will earn the Follow the Reader patch. Books are available at our Council Shop. Contact Terri,Council Shop Manager, at (562) 421-8456 ext 215 with any merchandise questions.

Religious Awards

Girl Scouts welcomes girls from every religion and encourages them to grow spiritually and celebrate their beliefs if they so desire. Religious award programs have been developed nationally by the various religious groups so that a girl might learn more about her faith and become a stronger member of her own religious group. Girl Scouts recognizes these programs and allows recognition to be worn on the official uniform, but each religious organization develops and administers its own program. Religious awards are optional programs for girls to complete with the help of their families and religious leaders. Materials are available through our council shop. Additional information can be found on the P.R.A.Y Publishing website or by contacting Lauren Fernandez at (562) 421-8456 ext 240.
