Do you enjoy being around children? Would you like to serve as an assistant to adult leaders and as a role model to
younger girls? Consider becoming a Program Aide to help run Girl Scout events or a Senior Program Aide to plan and
run events for younger girls.
Program Aides (P.A.)
A Program Aide (PA) is a Girl Scout who has completed
PA training and helps run Girl Scout events. Program Aides also earn a
PA patch. You qualify to be a PA
if you are:
1. A registered Girl Scout.
2. Age 12 or older AND in the 7th grade or higher.
3. Willing to complete over 7 hours of training and pay the $20 training fee.
P.A. Training
You register for training as an individual, not as a troop. The PA training
has two parts: a class which is 7 hours long and then hands-on training with a staff member.
The first step is to download the Program Aide Registration form,
fill it out and turn it in to Teresa.
P.A. Pin and Patch
Once you complete training and help at your first event, you will receive a PA
pin. Anytime you volunteer as a Program Aide after your training you will accumulate hours towards your
PA patch. The
Program Opportunities Book
(or the Summer
Camp Book, for Summer
PA opportunities) lists many Girl Scout events that can benefit from
PA assistance. When you find a program that you want to volunteer for as a
PA, complete a Program Aide Sign-Up Form and turn it in to
Teresa.
When you have logged 25 hours volunteering as a PA you will earn your
PA patch, which can be purchased in the Council Shop.
Summer Program Aides
If you would like to be a Summer Program Aide, no new training is required, however, please download and fill out this alternate
Summer
PA Registration form and submit the completed form to
Teresa (562) 421-8456 ext 226. To volunteer as a PA
in the summer, you need to have already completed your PA Training (but not necessarily
your 25 volunteer hours) and you need to sign up during summer camp registration. A description of the qualifications for
Summer Program Aides and a
Summer PA Registration form is available in the
Summer Camp
Book.
Senior Program Aide (S.P.A.)
To become a Senior Program Aide (SPA), you do not have to have completed
PA training, but you must participate in SPA
training to give you the skills needed to provide programs to younger girls.
You qualify to be a Senior Program Aide if you are:
1. A registered Girl Scout.
2. In grade 10 or above. (You do NOT need to have taken the Program Aide training for 7, 8, 9th graders.)
3. Willing to complete SPA training consisting of two parts and pay the $20 fee.
4. Willing to plan and organize activities for younger girls.
S.P.A. Training
You register for training as an individual, not as a troop. The SPA training has two parts. The first part of training is
taking charge of planning a program for Daisies or Brownies. You choose the activities, make a shopping list of supplies and create
the schedule for the program. The second part of training is providing the program. You check in the troops, facilitate the activities and collect the evaluations.
For details on upcoming SPA trainings see the Program Opportunities Book.
S.P.A. Pin
Once you complete training and your first event, you will receive an SPA pin and can plan programs for service units and troops.
If you are interested in planning any Daisy or Brownie events listed in the Program Opportunities Book, you can discuss it with
either Vickie (562) 421-8456 ext. 210 or Teresa at ext. 226.
Anytime you volunteer as a Senior Program Aide after your training, you will accumulate hours towards your SPA patch. When you have
logged 25 hours volunteering as an SPA you will earn your SPA patch, which can be purchased in the Council Shop.
Become a Program Aide or a Senior Program Aide and become a role model for younger Girl Scouts!
